Crystal Skulls Mystery

The story of the crystal skulls is a fascinating one. They made their first appearance in the public awareness just over a 100 years ago.
There is a full range of theories of their origination such as:
That they were carved thousands of years ago by the Mesoamerican civilization.
That they might be relics from the lost city of Atlantis.
That they might be some remnant from an Alien Visitation from the distant past.
As one can easily expect this was a fertile ground for all sort of controversies. Archaeologists, spiritualists, UFO experts and museums all wanted to give their own version of events.
The crystal skull phenomenon had no boundaries. Arthur C Clarke, William Shatner and even the SyFy channel (to mention a few) hosted special programs featuring these mysterious skulls.
So is there any sort of validity in these claims ? While there isn’t an exact count of how many crystal skulls are out there, a few of them have been subjected to some tests. When the British Museum and the Smithsonian subjected the skulls in their possession under the Electron Microscope both showed signs of modern carving which date back to the 1850-1900 which happens to coincide when this big boom originally started. This led to the museums to officially declare that the skulls were fake.
Later on additional skulls were subjected to testing and also showed signs of tool marks. In 2008 even the famous Frederick Mitchell-Hedges’s Crystal skull was finally subjected to similar tests. To many believer’s disappointment even this such revered item showed signs to modern tools.
So one has to ask. Was the crystal skull phenomena just a huge hoax? If we want to stick to the facts it does seem like it, however this is a story that just refuses to die out.
Believers are already pointing out that just because the skull is showing signs of tool marking, it could just mean that that it was carved by some lost highly advanced culture from the distant past.
Others like to point out that there are numerous accounts of all sort of mystical occurrences when people have been in close proximity with these skulls.
Another some what valid point is that there is an unaccounted amount of skulls in private collections that have never been tested.
At the end its another case of what one chooses to believe.
