When we see such structures we typically associate them with Stonehenge. While Stonehenge is quite a magnificent structure in its own rights, one might be surprised to know that the Maltese islands offer quite a vast selection of similar structures spread across the two main islands of Malta and Gozo.
The one we will be covering today is the Temple of Ggantija which is located in Gozo at the end of the Xaghra Plateau. The Ggantija temples are probably oldest in the series of megalitic temples that can be found in Malta. Their age can date from 3600 BC – 2500 BC, which could possibly mean they are more than 5500 years old. While not as old as Göbekli Tepe they still stand amongst the oldest temples in the world.
