Back in 2003 Honorary Visiting Professor Joann Fletcher claimed to have identified the mummy of the Queen Nefertiti. Eventually her conclusions were dismissed by some Egyptologists. Later on Zahi Hawass, head of the Supreme Council of Antiquities banned her from working in Egypt because he said “Dr Fletcher has broken the rules”

Just when the Nefertiti case seemed to have gone cold again, recently a brand new theory has emerged. Scans of King Tutankhamun’s tomb revealed that there might be some undiscovered chambers hidden behind its walls.

What makes this news even more exciting is the fact that if this turns out to be true it might also might also mean that there is a chance that her tomb might also still be in its original state just like Tutankhamun’s.

It is still uncertain what the next step will be. From news dating back to December 2015 it would seem that for the time being the Egyptologists will keep running DNA tests on existing mummies in order to identify one by one and maybe hit the jackpot.

This may dissapoint some people however one has to understand two major factors.

No.1 DNA has already managed identify mummies that a few years back where just unknowns.

No.2 The tomb of King Tutankhamun is priceless. No Egyptologist is gonna be willing to give the go ahead to remove a full section of a wall anytime soon until all other possibilties have been exhausted.
