While there are many stories, theories, myths and legends regarding the Anunaki there is actually not much that is officially accepted as being part of the Anunaki myth.

Lets start from the basics The Anunaki name has also been transcribed as Anunnaki, Anunna, Annunnaku,Ananaki and that is to mention a few.

Many associate the Anunaki to the Sumerians, however they were revered deities across the Ancient Mesopotamian cultures which included the Sumerians, the Akkadians, the Assyrians and the Babylonians.

Stories tell how Ki and her consort God Anu gave birth to the Anunaki.

Some examples of the Anunaki gods included:
Anu – The Sky God
Enki – Mischievous god of wisdom, magic and incantations who resides in the ocean under the earth.
Nabu – god of wisdom and writing.
Haya – goddess of grain and scribes

That is pretty much a quick view regarding the Anunaki. One should however mention that there have been several proposed theories over the years.

One particular theory that originated decades ago and has a strong following to this day is the suggestion that the Anunaki were actually an alien species that visited our planet in the distant past from the planet Nibiru and that we owe our existence to them. This theory was first introduced by Zecharia Sitchin. While it sounds like a fantastic story it has been rejected by pretty much every scholar.

The experts have been adamant that there is no sort of proof with in the Cuneiform Texts of the ancient Sumerians that confirms anything that Zecharia Sitchin has claimed. Non than less it seems like this theory won’t be dieing any time soon especially thanks his books and the internet.
